Redefining contemporary arts in Sydney

Carriageworks is the largest and most significant contemporary multi-arts centre of its kind in Australia. Carriageworks engages artists and audiences with contemporary ideas and issues. The program is artist led and emerges from Carriageworks’ commitment to reflecting social and cultural diversity. The Carriageworks artistic program is ambitious, risk taking and unrelenting in its support of artists. Carriageworks is a cultural facility of the NSW Government and receives support from Arts NSW and the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts.

For 2014, the Carriageworks Artistic Program brings together a dynamic mix of acclaimed international and Australian artists to cement its reputation as Sydney’s fastest growing cultural institution. The Carriageworks 2014 program draws on the social and cultural diversity of its home in Redfern as well as of Australia more broadly, with a firm emphasis on Asia and the Pacific. From the multiple Maori voices of Mau’s Stones in Her Mouth, to the interweaving histories of Ganesh Versus the Third Reich by Geelong’s Back to Back Theatre, Carriageworks places its 2014 Program in the geographical region in which it’s located. In 2014, Carriageworks will further strengthen partnerships with the city’s major arts festivals, including Sydney Festival, Vivid and for the first time Carriageworks will be a major venue partner with the Biennale of Sydney.
