Not so long ago our schools were looking fairly empty – there wasn’t a pram or toddler in sight.
Over recent years there’s been an explosion of children. With these ankle biters has come a range of children’s clothing and toy stores. And keeping with the spirit of Newtown, these shops are edgy and innovative. In Newtown Precinct, pink is not just for girls.
South King Street may be the heart of vintage Newtown but it is also seeing more children’s stores opening. The amazing Flying Penguin is one of these. This award winning store is all about fun, education and eco. Imaginations and minds will be challenged, and not just the babies – they cater to every age group.
And just further down the road is the remarkable Shorties. Little sister to Dragstar, this Newtown fave stocks original retro inspired fashion and toys for newborns right up to fourteen year olds. You will not find logos, mass produced or cheap imported labels here. Shorties is all about local designers, one off knits and handcrafted products.
One relatively new Newtown shop is Little Big Tween. LBT is filling the gap in the market for fun, comfortable, age appropriate clothing for Tweens. They have their locally designed label and also stock like-minded labels.
Keeping with the spirit of Newtown is Earth Kid. They specialise in children’s goods that are environmentally and socially sustainable. They also have a great range of pre-loved clothing.
Your kids, friends’ kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins – infants and tweens – if you want them to be happy in their clothes, reducing their footprint and having their imaginations fired up, Newtown children’s shops will help you out. And they are fun too! Just check out Gigi’s Fairy Fashion…
